About the Role and You

Contract type: Full Time, Permanent

Salary: Dependent on experience

Start date: Sep 2025 or Jan 2026

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Plan and deliver engaging and well-structured English lessons to Key Stage 3, GCSE Literature and Language and A Level Literature, following curriculum guidelines and school policies.
  • Develop schemes of work and lesson plans that promote practical skills, creativity, and an understanding of English.
  • Assess, monitor, and report on students’ progress, providing constructive feedback to support improvement and achievement.
  • Prepare students for internal and external assessments, including GCSE and A-level.
  • Manage resources, equipment, and materials effectively, ensuring they are well maintained and available for lessons.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school, including participation in open evenings, parent meetings, and enrichment activities such as cooking clubs or competitions.
  • Support the development of students’ independence, confidence, and teamwork through practical activities and projects.
  • Stay up to date with curriculum changes, science trends, and best practices in teaching English.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Ability to teach KS3, GCSE Lit and Lang and A Level Literature.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (or equivalent teaching qualification)
  • A degree in English or a related subject (e.g., English Literature, English Language, Creative Writing)
  • Experience teaching English at secondary level (Key Stages 3–4; KS5 desirable)
  • Strong subject knowledge in English language and literature
  • Excellent classroom management skills and a proven ability to motivate and engage students
  • Ability to plan and deliver high-quality lessons that cater to a range of abilities and learning styles
  • A commitment to assessment, progress tracking, and providing effective feedback
