Lent Term 2012 workset
Mrs Margaret Ball
Before Sackville: After studying Engineering at university, I worked as a welding engineer in industry for several years. I then decided to become a teacher as it offered me a more "family friendly" career, especially when I had children of my own. I have taught Physics in a variety of schools in Hertfordshire, East Sussex and Kent, and in the College of Further Education in Barrow, Cumbria. More recently, I have worked as a supply teacher before accepting a part-time post at Sackville.
Why I enjoy my subject: I am passionate about Physics because it explains life, the universe and everything that goes on in it. I am in awe of the scope of the subject, from the miniscule in Quantum Physics to the mind-bogglingly enormous in Cosmology.
Why I enjoy Sackville: Because it enables me to do what I like best, which is to share my love of Science with well motivated students. The staff are also supportive and friendly and genuinely seem to enjoy working together.
My favourite lesson: Any lesson in which the students say "WOW, that was interesting / fun / I didn't know that / I want to be a scientist when I grow up / thankyou".
Other roles: I help run Science drop-ins for students who need to catch-up or clarify ideas.
Passions: ARSENAL - I am a Red member and go to as many games as possible at the Emirates. I also enjoy hill-walking, sailing, skiing and going to the gym.
