Sackville School

Mrs Janette Langan

Before Sackville

I spent several years in London working as an IT developer.  I enjoyed the technical aspects of the role - they kept my inner geek happy - but even more, I liked co-ordinating the contributions of many people as we worked towards a common aim.  I especially enjoyed finding solutions to the hurdles – both great and small - that presented themselves along the way.

Then, with family life in my sights, I gained a first-class honours degree in Psychology focusing on child development and the cognitive aspects of learning difficulties. A few infant-absorbed years later and I gained vocational experience and qualifications in dyslexia, working at a specialist school and two prep schools in the area.

Why I enjoy my subject?

Learning Support is about team work – a collaboration with students, their parents, teachers, other staff and specialists to bring about additional learning.  It is also about finding ways to help someone else to overcome their current learning hurdles.

Why I enjoy Sackville

Sackville is a small and friendly school where the Learning Support Team plays an integral part in the educational experience of many students.

My favourite lesson

One part of my job as a Learning Support Teacher is to find games that directly help an individual’s current learning targets.  The best bit is that I get to play these games with some wonderful students!

Other roles

My role in Learning Support is varied.  For me, being involved in day-to-day classes is essential.  The experience feeds into my work as a teacher and helps me to identify students’ needs and progress.

Passions

Growth and learning.

Finding time to hang out with my family and friends.  Searching for the ultimate Flat White coffee.  Jogging with my buddies or playing tennis.  Verandahs.  Dancing like nobody's watching.
