Sackville School

Mrs Jane Ryland

Before Sackville

I worked in London as an account manager for a large advertising company and then as a researcher for some Management Consultants.  I loved both these jobs, but I particularly enjoyed working for a management consultancy as it gave me the opportunity to learn about a variety of businesses and to travel extensively.

I worked part time for a while after having my family, but had to give this up when we moved to the country.  I knew I wanted to keep on working and teaching seemed like the perfect option.  I did my PGCE and having taught for two years decided I wanted to specialise in dyslexia.  I studied for my postgraduate diploma in literacy and dyslexia at the Dyslexia Institute in Tonbridge.

Why I enjoy the subject

I love teaching on a one to one basis.  I have taught some of my pupils from year 7 up to year 13 and it is a very satisfying experience watching them develop from awkward 11 years olds to mature and confident 18 year olds.

Sackville

I have now been at Sackville for 10 years.  I keep on thinking it’s time to move on, but I enjoy working in the school so much that I can’t.  The staff are very friendly and the children are generally well behaved and respectful.  Every child who comes here seems to find their own niche which enables them to fulfil their full potential.

Passions

I enjoy playing tennis and going to the theatre.  I have just taken up golf, which is without doubt the most addictive and frustrating game ever invented.
