Lent Term 2012 workset
Mr Daniel Burnett - Psychology
Before Sackville
I studied Psychology at the University of Kent from 2002 to 2005 specialising in criminal behaviour, neuroscience and stress, in my final year. Between university and teaching I spent time working in the recruitment sector, which gave me the opportunity to meet people from wide personal and professional backgrounds.
Why I enjoy my subject
The scientific nature of Psychology appeals to me, as it allows us to explain the things we see and do around us. We are exposed to so much variety in human behaviour, which only Psychology can provide an explanation for.
Why I enjoy working at Sackville
Enjoying school life is important for students and teachers, as it keeps everybody interested in their courses. My experience is that Sackville students demonstrate an enthusiastic and active approach to their learning. This allows me the opportunity to run lessons that can be both informative, challenging and enjoyable.
Favourite lessons
The diversity of both GCSE and A-Level courses ensures that there are many favourite lessons. Some of the highlights include recreating ‘police style’ cognitive interviews, memory experiments and explaining psychological abnormalities (phobias, OCD, etc).
Other roles
I am currently running a study skills programme for year 12 here at Sackville. I teach Psychology at another college down on the coast, near home.
Passions
I’ve always enjoyed learning something new and can often be found reading about the past, as it can tell us so much about the future. I am a keen Liverpool FC fan, enjoy fast cars and keep a pair of African Greys at home.
