Lent Term 2012 workset
Mr Ajai Theophilus
Before Sackville
I am a career teacher, having previously taught at 5 mixed comprehensive schools, a mixed boarding school and a Boys’ Grammar school. I enjoy new challenges and whilst it is always hard to start at a new school I have grown as a teacher as a result of experiencing the varied challenges and rewards at different schools. I feel that I have taught for thirty years, rather than for one year thirty times.
Why I enjoy my subject
Physics, along with Philosophy, asks the fundamental questions.
Why I enjoy Sackville?
The school is about the students and staff creating an ethos and sense of community that could only exist in such a small and friendly school.
My favourite Lesson?
After 30 years I realise that my ability to predict a great lesson is minimal. Preparing activities I consider interesting is not enough: Every lesson is different and a lesson’s subject material is almost immaterial. I only know that when a good lesson has happened there has been full engagement and lively interaction, invariably with an unexpected element of humour thrown in.
Other roles
Sixth form tutor.
Passions
I love to learn. Philosophy, both Eastern and Western, are areas I have studied. I learned transcendental meditation and yogic flying in my late 20s and value the benefits.
I believe that virtually all areas of study and knowledge have their value. I enjoy online quizzing, the strangest questions often leading me to further research.
