Lent Term 2012 workset
Miss Alexia Taylor
Before Sackville
After completing my degree I taught in comprehensive schools in Reading and Oldham, and also taught Lacrosse at a Summer Camp in Maine, USA.
Why I enjoy my subject
Geography is a richly diverse subject that provides us with an understanding of our changing world. Covering our physical environment, resources, culture and global development, it has direct relevance in our daily lives and helps to develop a wide range of skills of high value. The field trips are a bonus too!
Why I enjoy Sackville?
Due to the teacher pupil ratio at Sackville you get to know the students as individuals not just someone in your lesson, and the focus is on developing the whole person, not just academic achievement.
My favourite Lesson?
The first lessons of the new academic year because during the holidays I realise how much I miss the interaction with students. It also provides an opportunity to set both students and myself new challenges for the year ahead.
Other roles
Deputy Head and Geography Teacher
Passions
Outside school, I play Lacrosse for Reading Wildcats. I like to follow the progress (or lack of, in recent years) of Sheffield Wednesday, and dream of them returning to the top flight of football one day. I enjoy hill walking, and recently discovered the serenity of the Lake District. I have completed some of Wainwright’s favourite peaks, and look forward to many more of the enjoyable walks he describes and illustrates so eloquently.
