Student Wins First Prize in National Mathematics Competition

Posted on 14 May 2017

We are delighted to announce that Year 10 student, Nicholas Munro, has won first prize in the British Society for the History of Mathematics - School Plus national competition.  The competition invited students from schools across the UK to write a 1500 word paper on a chosen mathematical concept utilised in today’s society. Nicholas’ paper on “A Brief Exploration of Mathematical Modelling” won him the top prize of £100 in the 11-15 years category and the congratulations of the judges who said that “they were extremely impressed with the quality of his entry”.

Nicholas is an outstanding student of Mathematics on course to achieve top marks at GCSE in both Maths and Statistics and he has commenced the Additional Mathematics course; he is also performing at the highest level in all his other subjects and won a prize for his creative writing ability in a competition organised by West Kent Mind.

Nicholas runs weekly Maths mentoring sessions for Year 7 students, generating the resources and leading a team of four of his peers to deliver the lessons. We are confident that Nicholas will achieve top marks across the board at GCSE and A level and go on to fulfil his ambition to read Mathematics at university.
