Sackville School

Food Studies

Food Studies at Sackville places an emphasis on learning lifelong practical skills. Students are taught the subject on a rotational basis throughout Key Stage 3 and as an option as GCSE.

In Key Stage 3 students are taught key principles in healthy eating, food hygiene and safety, food science and practical cookery skills and knowledge in the weekly hour long lesson. In year 7 students will progress from a healthy club sandwich to pizza and fairy cakes. Year 8 and Year 9 curriculum builds on this and students make products such as macaroni cheese, cous cous salad, sweet and sour chicken, and spaghetti bolognese.

GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition follows the EDUQAS work scheme.

Cookery is also offered when possible as part of the extracurricular programme of activities.
