Duke of Edinburgh's Award
Welcome to the Sackville Duke of Edinburgh's Award Parent's section. See here for any news relating to this year's award groups and information on our latest training sessions and expeditions.
1st February Practice Walk
Students will leave school at 4:00 and undertake a basic route to practice their navigation and map reading skills in the local area. Students may come back earlier due to the light; however pick up time will remain constant at 6pm at Sackville. They will need…
- Sturdy footwear that are ok to get muddy (trainers ok, no plimsolls, UGG boots etc)
- Warm clothing! The more layers the better, including gloves/hat
- Waterproof clothing (Jacket is a must)
- A small backpack to carry a drink, a snack, clothes etc (Please note that because of the time we have, students will not be allowed to go to the shop en-route)
All students are required to attend the evening to get a better understanding about practical navigation work, to use when on expedition and in route planning.
10th February - First Aid
In our first training session the participants learnt all about First Aid and how act in emergencies on the expeditions.
All the students found great joy in wrapping each other up in bandages, slings and putting their partners the recovery position. The session finished with each person being put through a series of problem situations to deal with. It's good to see the students are not short of bravery!
3rd March - Campcraft training
Wednesday the 3rd of March will be an outdoor session, students will need to bring with them outdoor shoes and clothing.
