Sackville School

Passionate Teaching

"..the teachers are invariably passionate about their subjects. They have the highest possible expectations of every child. They are experts in the craft of the classroom.."

Chris Woodhead, Chairman, Cognita Schools

Cognita

In October 2006, Sackville School joined the Cognita group.

The Cognita group currently encompasses fifty-two schools across the UK, Europe and South-East Asia. Fitting a broad profile, our family of schools includes nurseries, pre-prep, prep, junior and senior schools. We employ some 2,900 teaching and support staff, in the care and education of over 15,200 pupils.

Sackville, along with all Cognita Schools, benefits from remaining largely autonomous. The school is led by the Headteacher and a school-based leadership team. Corporate membership ensures that our school benefits both from support services and from access to an extensive collegiate network.  Cognita’s regional teams of experienced educationalists provide academic staff with a whole range of expertise, whilst core business function, such as premises management, facilities, and systems infrastructure are provided by dedicated staff who work across the various regions.

The group was the brainchild of Chris Woodhead who has over thirty-five years' experience in education. He has taught English in grammar and comprehensive schools, lectured in education at university level, and worked in senior posts in local authority education. He ran the National Curriculum Council and the Schools Curriculum Assessment Authority, before his appointment as Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Schools in 1996.  Having resigned in November 2000, he is now a professor of Education at the University of Buckingham. Chris broadcasts, and writes regularly in the national press, on education policy.

Sackville, along with all Cognita Schools, champions "Teaching Excellence"

Walk through the classroom door and you know the atmosphere is intense. Every child is involved, there is silent concentration and there is excitement and there is laughter. This is teaching as it should be.

How is it done? The teachers are invariably passionate about their subjects. They have the highest possible expectations of every child. They are experts in the craft of the classroom. Teaching excellence, Cognita's goal. The most important thing we can offer our pupils.”
