Our academic curriculum is complemented by a varied and challenging programme of extra-curricular activities and experiences. We believe in developing our pupils in the broadest sense and experiences outside the classroom ensure students become fully rounded individuals. An extensive programme of trips at home and abroad enhances the curriculum and widens horizons. The Creative and Performing Arts play an important role in building self-esteem and students have many opportunities to perform or work back stage in our dedicated studio theatre. Team work and competitive spirit is achieved through participation in a wide range of sports using our own sporting facilities and external organisations for activities such as horse riding, rock climbing and water sports.
Pupils in KS3 (Years 7, 8 and 9) enjoy a weekly, timetabled afternoon of enrichment activities with the choices rotating each term. Additionally on Tuesdays and Thursdays, for an hour after school, the whole school are able to take advantage of a wide range of enrichment opportunities. The school bus service runs later on those two days to accommodate attendance.
In addition to staples such as debating and chess clubs, traditional sports and creative arts we regularly introduce new activities; recent offerings include non-contact boxing, triathlon and electronics. We are excited to be adding STEM Crest, a project-based awards scheme for pupils interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, to our activities programme this year.
An Activities Fair is held each term when students are able to find out what is involved in each activity before making their choices. There really is something for everyone as we believe it is important for each individual to discover what they enjoy and what they excel at. Pupils have gone on to flourish in diverse activities which they first experienced at Sackville such as fencing and technical theatre.
